ABOUT GENTE ORGANIZADA:
Gente Organizada (Gente) is a community-led social action non-profit organization based in Pomona whose mission is to organize to build intergenerational power and wellness for youth and immigrant families in Pomona. We use an asset-based approach to community organizing to partner with historically underrepresented immigrant populations to understand their rights and the power of community action. Gente builds upon the deep-rooted, unique cultural strengths that have helped immigrant communities survive for generations and increase capacities for these communities to not just survive but to truly thrive. POSITION SUMMARY:
To build a robust and engaged movement, Gente requires a strong base of parent organizers. Parents of color from low-income families continue to be marginalized and under-resourced, especially Black, Latine, and undocumented individuals in our communities.
Over the last year, these conditions have grown even worse as a result of the mounting economic crisis, and the amplification of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of hatred throughout the U.S. and in Southern California. Due to gaps in access brought on by systematic barriers in education, healthcare and other institutional failures, families continue to experience severe challenges in accessing health and wellness resources. These challenges are even more pronounced in economically-challenged cities, including Pomona.
The ideal candidate is an experienced community organizer, passionate about working with parents and youth, and invested in the community. We are looking for someone who is a fast learner, can work independently, and enjoys detail-oriented work.
