In November 2022, United Voices of Pomona (UVP) selected Gente to take over the maintenance and operation of its community garden located at 1191 Buena Vista Avenue. Then known as the Buena Vista Community Garden, the City-owned parcel was previously maintained by UVP through a license granted by the City of Pomona. Gente took over the existing lease and transformed the space into the Gente Community Garden.

Today, the space has become a crucial cornerstone of our work with the community, serving as a hub for intergenerational engagement, education, and wellness. Since Gente took over maintenance and operations, the Gente Community Garden has:

• Produced tens of thousands of pounds of organic pesticide-free locally grown food, benefiting hundreds of local families. 

• Hosted dozens of community events, including art workshops, gardening, open mic nights, and teach-ins, which hundreds of visitors attended.

• Served as a training ground for farming volunteers.
